What To Expect from Focused Shockwave Therapy

Focused shockwave therapy is a non-invasive form of treatment. When combined with physiotherapy, it accelerates healing, reduces pain, and improves functional mobility for many conditions including Achilles tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, slipped/herniated discs, Dupuytren's Contracture and more.

This page explains what to expect from your consultation to completing your treatment plan, so you feel informed and confident every step of the way.

Book a FREE phone consultation (through our online booking button) or contact us by email, with no commitment, pressure, or obligation to find out if focused shockwave therapy is the right treatment path for you.

Procedure

Each session includes a combination of focused shockwave therapy and physiotherapy.

  • The intensity and frequency of the shockwaves are adjusted based on your pain tolerance and the characteristics of your condition.
  • High-quality ultrasound gel is used to ensure effective energy transfer.
  • You will hear a rhythmic clicking sound as the acoustic waves are delivered.
  • If applicable to your condition, wear loose-fitting clothes or bring shorts.

Homework

Depending on your condition, you may be given stretch and/or exercise programs to complete at home.

  • This helps progress rehab between treatment sessions, maximise recovery and minimise clinic time.
  • Following these programs supports long-term improvements and reduces the risk of recurrence.
